The Story behind the creation of STEPN GO
Every revolutionary idea begins with a spark, an ‘aha’ moment that changes everything.
For Yawn and Jerry, co-founders of STEPN GO, that moment occurred unexpectedly, one afternoon over a seemingly ordinary cup of coffee minted by Jerry for Yawn. As they discussed the successes and limitations of their first project, STEPN, the conversation turned to the possibilities of how it could be improved. That’s when the idea of STEPN GO was born — over laughter, caffeine, and sketches on napkins.
The Genesis of an Idea
It was during this umpteenth coffee meeting that the founders of FSL realised that while STEPN had successfully harnessed the potential of the move-and-earn model, it lacked in social engagement and community features, elements vital for broader and more sustainable user interaction.
Additionally, as the economic model is the cornerstone of a viable project, they thought about how it could be improved. In STEPN, the Sneakers inflation has always been a huge issue, so they focused on how it could be countered by designing a sustainable tokenomics model.
Then, fuelled by their passion for the community and the wish to make web3 more accessible, Yawn and Jerry dreamed up STEPN GO. They envisioned a platform that would do more than just promote physical activity; it would bring people together. STEPN GO was imagined as a space where deeper social connections enrich every step of the fitness journey, and joining is not exclusive to crypto nerds but accessible to everyone, making it more engaging, rewarding, and inclusive for every user involved.
How to make it real
To implement those dreams of a social and accessible game, Yawn and Jerry imagined multiple new features, designed to create the best social fitness app:
Easy Onboarding with The Haus System: This social feature ensures a smooth start for new users. Active players can lend their Sneakers to their friends and family, allowing them to start without any crypto knowledge. The more we are, the funniest!
Social Interaction: By walking or running with their Sneakers, users can earn Outfit Fragments, and use them to customise their 3D Avatar. Those Avatars can then be flexed on the in-app Interactive Map, where everyone can interact with the entire community!
Energy system: And icing on the cake, Yawn and Jerry also designed a sustainable economic model, where users have to burn their Sneakers to obtain Energy and use the app, ensuring the stability of the assets value.
Why Not Just Expand STEPN?
The decision to create STEPN GO instead of expanding the original STEPN platform was driven by a clear vision that required starting from scratch.
The original STEPN system, while successful, is primarily focused on the move-and-earn model, which limits the scope for incorporating robust social features and interactive elements without disrupting the existing user experience.
Technical and Structural Limitations
Integrating complex social features would have required a fundamental restructuring that could risk the stability and security of the platform and user’s assets.
In essence, the creation of STEPN GO reflects a bold step forward, leveraging the lessons learned from STEPN to offer something entirely new to the web3 space.
